Community Today (Part 1)

Soon I will be starting a small group with some friends. I have been thinking about this concept of “small group” for some time now and I wrote a letter to those who we asked to be a part of a group. Here are some parts from the letter sharing my thoughts on small group community in 2007… more to come though…

We want to quickly tell you what we believe God is calling us to. As best we can in our modern world, we desire to live in an “Acts 2” community way. In the business of our everyday lives it can be very difficult to have true, deep community with other believers but we would like to see that happen. We desire to join in community with other couples and focus our time, energy, and support for those that we share that community with. As many of you have probably experienced, it can be hard to truly connect with others when you are trying to fit everyone into an already full life and family schedule. It can easily make you feel stretched thin relationally without feeling like there is a true relational community. So in an attempt to counter this, we desire to join with you to experience this community through a small group…

Honestly we don’t have any particular agenda, we just want to begin to live in community with other believes, believers that are our friends. We can meet at each others homes, go out, eat dinner, play games, share and pray, laugh and cry. It is about being together….

However, the goal is that through this small group we will be experiencing this community more then just every other week and in these times we will be experiencing it together with our entire families…

Now the invitation is out to you. Would you like to be involved in this community with us? This is not a group for us to lead. It is a group for us all to be in community together….
